We always cherish the good moments we have had with Dr. Ashwath Rao from his SJSU days. We fondly remember the welcoming smile and hospitality that he and Dr. Sarala Rao have extended when ever we visited their house. Excellent man to look up to for guidance and advise.

We will miss Dr. Ashwath Rao..

We have wonderful memories of Ashwath during our many AAPIO days together. His excellent rendition of 'Kabi Kabi Mere Dil'is still resounding in my ears. I remember him as a calm, friendly person whose quick smile and gentle mannerisms were as impressive as his academic accolades. This is a shock and we will miss him a great deal.

We had the pleasure of knowing Ashwath for more than thirty years. He was a most genuine, kind and friendly person we have ever met. He loved his family and always talked about them with pride. We fondly remember playing tennis with him, hiking at Yosemite, attending various meetings together, and cordial conversations. We are going to miss him. Our deepest condolences to Sarala and kids.

Aswatha, my brothers Manohar, Satyanarayan & I were golfing buddies and we played golf together whenever Aswatha came to Bangalore. He was great golfer with a combative spirit and real passion for the game. Off the course we spent several evenings together and found him a thorough gentleman. In his passing away we miss a gentleman golfer and our world is poorer.

Dear Sarala and Family
Ashwath was the iconic anchor of the Rao family. His quiet manner and genuine interest in the people around him endeared him to all of us who had the good fortune to get to know him through the AAPIO meetings and get-togethers.
His accomplishments were many and he seemed to bring his considerable intellectual and physical prowess to everything that he attempted to do whether related to work or play.
Dinesh and I will miss him .Our prayers are with you as you come to grips with this reality.
please accept our deepest condolences.

I knew Ashwatha since 1948 as a neighbour and a close relative. He was an excellent student through out. We used to play table tennis. He was one year senior to me in the college. He kept his smile all the time. He came up in life through very difficult circumstances. He never gave up once he set up a goal.

It was a coincidence that I was in Hyderbad to be present for his wedding. Sarala who is also a close relative for me always stud by Aswatha and together they did very well in raising an excellent family, significant contribution to Kannada community.

The last time I saw Aswath was at Vasu's birthday party. He greeted me with a warm hug and congratulated me on soon to becoming a grandmother. He talked about how wonderful it is to have grandchildren and beamed with joy as he talked about his own. This is how I want to remember him.

God bless his soul.

We knew Ashwatha uncle as a warm, jovial and friendly person. Kumar and I admired his erudition. Amogh remembers him as his first football buddy and Neha as her first friend with whom she shared all her secrets. We are fortunate to have spent quality time with him during his frequent trips to Bangalore during the last one year.
Uncle we miss you dearly.

Ashwath came into my life in 1958 at the Indian Institute of Science where we were contemporaries. We renewed our friendship when we moved to Palo Alto in 1977 and our families have remained close since. I have played lots of tennis with Ashwath and always was impressed by his competitive spirit. Gowri and Mukund were High School batchmates and Padma was Food secretary when Aswath was the President of KKNC. We have enjoyed Sarla and Aswath's hospitality at their lovely digs in LAH. Aswath and I met frequently when we got our hair cut and exchanged details of our lives. He was always full of wit, wisdom and smiles. I last hugged him at a wedding in Concord. I miss him very much. May he rest in peace.

I am deeply sad to miss one of good old Berkeley friends. We had worked together for several years in the room of graduate students to receive Ph.D. We had a hard but enjoyable time. Dr. Rangaiya Rao stayed for several months as a visiting Professor in Kyoto University where very good memories had left to my family. This is how I want to recollect him. Please accept my deepest condolences.

When I first heard the sad news of Ashwath, I said to myself “ this is impossible, can’t be, and must be all a mistake”. Just a few weeks before, we had seen him joking and laughing about himself, and I felt he could easily go on to live healthy and hearty for another ten years. But that wasn’t to be. For all the nearly forty years we have known Ashwath and Sarala, he was always warm and affectionate, and very hospitable as a host. He was an open book and never hesitated to speak from his heart. It is gratifying to remember that he had a very successful and fulfilling life, with many achievements and broad interests. He will be dearly missed.

It was my privilege to read about Dr. Rao, even though I did not know him. I just came across to see Dr. Sarala's Linkedin site and ended up here.

It is a pride to know about another Kannadiga Dr. Rao who came to USA, after a distinguished scholastic career long before all of us and he accomplished so much.
